Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough is merging with Broad and Cassel to form a firm with more than 725 lawyers. The merger will create a firm with 25 offices in 11 states and Washington, D.C., according to a press release and FAQ page. It will go into effect Aug. 1. The Daily Report and the Tampa Bay Times have stories. Nelson Mullins has more than 575 lawyers, and is based in Columbia, South Carolina. Broad and Cassel is based in Florida and has 150 lawyers. After the merger, the firm will be known in Florida as Nelson Mullins Broad and Cassel. The combination will produce a “super-regional” law firm with a significant presence along the Eastern Seaboard, according to the press release. Nelson Mullins managing partner Jim Lehman told the Daily Report that neither law firm has any debt, and both are conservatively managed. He will continue to serve as managing partner of the combined firm. Broad and Cassel chairman C. David Brown will become a voting member of the executive committee.
