Consumer Advice for Dealing with Scam Robocalls

Here are some tips for dealing with the surge of spam telemarketing calls:
  • Do NOT answer unknown telephone calls
  • Beware of Spoofing: Caller ID showing “local” numbers do not necessarily mean it’s a local caller
  • The IRS will NEVER call to request immediate payment for taxes
  • The IRS will not call you before first sending a bill in the mail
  • The IRS will not ask for payment information over the phone
  • The IRS will not threaten you with police or lawsuits
  • If you suspect a call is a scam, hang up immediately and do NOT give out any personal information and notify the IRS
